How to use a pail feeder?
Just fill to the top with sugar syrup, fit the lid on snugly. then slowly invert the pail until a vacuum is formed. Place over the hole in the inner cover. We recommend placing a deep hive body over the pail to protect it from predators or wind and will prevent robbing. The bees then come up from the lid to eat and more then drips down. You can also add winter patties and kive alive fondant which is a great winter feed.
In the spring do not use pollen patties prior to St. Patrick’s day. You don’t want to give sugar syrup in the spring until the bees are flying regularly. In the spring during build-up you can feed 1:1 sugar syrup. In the fall use 2:1 sugar syrup as that gives the bees the signal to store food as it is the most like honey as it is thicker. Do not feed sugar syrup once the cold weather arrives and the bees can’t take cleansing flights instead feed winter patties like hive alive fondant.
The 1 Gallon Feeder Pail with Lid is perfect for 8 frame or 10 frame langstroth hives.
