Where is the best place to put a swarm trap?

When it comes to placing swarm traps for bees, it’s important to choose the right location. Large, towering landmark trees and trees lining the edges of woods and roads make for great spots to place swarm traps. Not only do these locations provide a sturdy and stable environment for the bees, but they also offer ample protection and shade from the sun. In addition to a suitable location, water is also a key factor to consider. Bee colonies require a water source to thrive, so it’s best to place swarm traps near a nearby creek or pond. This is more likely to attract bees to the trap and increase the chances of successful capture.

How far away should I place the swarm trap?

To successfully attract scout bees and prevent them from returning to their existing colony, it’s important to consider the spacing of bees within their environment. Bees tend to prefer some distance between themselves, so traps placed in close proximity to an existing colony may not be as alluring to scout bees as those situated further away. A good trap location would be anywhere from a couple hundred feet to 1 mile away from an existing hive, providing enough distance for the bees to perceive it as a new and promising location to build their hive.

Swarm Commander can help you attract bees

Swarm Commander is a modern beekeeping tool that uses the power of pheromones, or scents, to help bees find their place in the hive. By releasing a special blend of pheromones into the air, Swarm Commander attracts bees from nearby hives and invites them to move into an empty hive box. This helps prevent swarming—the process where too many bees leave their existing home and swarm around looking for somewhere else to live. The use of Swarm Commander helps reduce this problem by providing a new home site with familiar scents that attract more bees to settle in?

How to use swarm commander?

To set up the swarm trap, it is recommended to mount it at a height of 6 to 8 feet above the ground and place it adjacent to a wood line. Apply two sprays of Swarm Commander on the bottom side of your inner cover and one or two sprays on the entrance in case you are using a hive. Be sure to monitor your swarm box regularly every 7-10 days for any signs of activity and reapply as required. Check out Swarm Commander to use with your swarm trap.
